Karen Burzinski,
Director of Christian Education
Karen was born in Boston, Massachusetts but raised primarily in DeKalb, Illinois. She went to the University of Iowa where she received a degree in Elementary Education. After college, she taught 5th and 6th grades for several years near Kansas City, Missouri. Later, she moved to Bloomington, Illinois and joined the staff of the Great Rivers Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church working in the multi-media center, creating publications for the conference, and assisting the Camping and Youth Director. While working at the Conference Office, Karen volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at her local church and camp director for several conference summer camps.
Karen, her husband, Joe, and their three boys moved to Menomonee Falls in 1998 and began attending ECUMC soon after. She accepted the position of Director of Christian Education in May of 2002. As Director of Christian Education, Karen focuses mainly on programming for children in the Nursery through 7th grade. Her favorite part of the job is witnessing those “ah ha!” moments while teaching children and experiencing many of them, herself, while researching upcoming lesson topics. Karen continually seeks new volunteers, suggestions for Sunday school programming, and prayers that our children and teachers will continue to grow in their faith.
