Missions--Faith In Action

Jesus Said,
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'  "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'  "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

AT ECUMC missions is a way of living.  It is sharing the love of Christ in prayer, worship and, most important, action.  Each individual can search for how God wants him or her to be in mission each day.  The work of the Missions Committee is to gather, organize, and advertize and support missions opportunities - opportunities to give your time, your talents and your financial gifts.

Financial Support

A portion of the operating budget is dedicated each year to Missions work.  The committee has a budget of $9,000 to sustain our local missions efforts.  In addition, a portion of our apportionments is dedicated to support mission programs and administration of the UMC Conference.  Finally, we have some major fund raising events:

Youth Mission Auction:   Plain, fancy and sometimes downright weird items are donated to the silent and voice auction each year.  We gather for a meal and then the bidding begins.  It is an evening filled with laughter and fun and it raises funds for youth work missions projects.

Habitat for Humanity:  Our Habitat program support is funded through individual donations solicited in the spring of each year.

Harvest Brunch:  Each fall the Missions Committee and the Kitchen Klub present a sumptuous brunch with breakfast and lunch choices.  The proceeds of the ticket sales fund missions projects identified each year.  In 2009 we were able to purchase a springing heifer for the farm at Mujilla Falls, Zambia.

Mission Support Fund: Through the generosity of private donors the Missions committee is able to supplement its programs and initiate new efforts.
